The first thing that comes to most peoples’ mind when they
think of water conservation is that they conserve water and their neighbor
wastes water.
This may be true, however, do you know how much water is applied to your
landscape? You may know how many gallons you pay for, but how many inches of
water is that equivalent to? Do you know
that most plants only need from 15 to 36 inches of water per year? A lot of systems are applying over 96 inches
of water per year, over an 8-foot column of water.
The average sprayer system applies about 1.5 inches of water
per hour. A system set to come on every
morning for 15 minutes will water about 2.6 inches of water per week. At the end of a 35-week season, this would be
92 inches of water.
